CALLENDER AND BARNE’S CONTINUES FLOW CALORIMETER CALLENDER AND BARNE’S CONTINUOES FLOW CALORIMETER – Physics Equipment Callender and Barnes’ Apparatus also known as Continuous Flow Calorimeter is a scientific instrument that is designed to find the specific heat capacities. The apparatus consists of a horizontal corning glass tube open at both ends. The heating element is a coil about 40 cm long of Ni-chrome wire and is wound spirally inside the axis of the glass tube. The complete apparatus is mounted on a polished wooden base board. For determining the specific heat of water or similar liquids. Consists of a glass tube 100 mm long with heating element (electric wire). Two screw terminals are provided at the ends of the tube for electric supply. The horizontal tube is connected by means of rubber bungs to the inlet & outlet system. Each having a vertical expansion to accommodate the thermometer. A stream of water is made to flow through the glass tube & heated by the spiral by passing electric current. With the help of an adjustable constant boil tank, the rate of flow is kept constant. The rise in temperature of water is measured by two thermometers Supplied with thermometer. The Apparatus consists of glass tube carrying inside a spiral of wire. A Steam of water is made to flow through the glass tube and heated by the spiral by passing electric current. The whole apparatus is fitted on a polished wooden board. Complete with constant level tank with thermometers.
